About Us:

Share your passion for the natural environment, conservation and community.

We are a small environmental charity based in Emsworth, Hampshire. We work to reduce the impact of pollution along our coastlines and in our local countryside, with a particular focus on plastic pollution and waste. We do this through active educational outreach activities with schools and community groups, through beach cleans, suburban and countryside clean-ups, and through engaging with local businesses. Our primary geographical area of operations stretches from Southampton, Hants, to Chichester, West Sussex, although we do sometimes operate outside this region.

The Role:

You’ll make an important contribution to educating communities and school-aged students by delivering our engaging environmental conservation and connection programme, with emphasis on the detrimental effect of plastic pollution on wildlife and our environment, to schools, young people, families and adults. This includes assemblies, talks and workshops, and running holiday activities and beach cleans, as well as community outreach projects. You will enthusiastically represent the Charity at public events when required.

You will be working as part of a small team – your role will be directly assisting the Head of Educational Outreach. Some evening or weekend work will be required to cover certain events. The role is 20 hours per week, term time only, with an additional 6 days during the school holidays over the course of the year. The term dates will align with those prescribed by Hampshire and West Sussex County Councils.

The full details of the role are found by clicking on the button links to the Full Job Description above or below.

About You:

Creative, confident and practical, you’re an enthusiastic advocate for protecting, enjoying and conserving our environment and oceans. You will be passionate about the environment with a sound knowledge of the impact of plastic pollution on the coastal environment.

Environmental education is a key part of this role, so experience and interest in working effectively with children and young people is key. Our educational work covers the early years right through to secondary school age, so an ability to work with a wide range of ages is beneficial.

Your energy and enthusiasm for the environment will be infectious and inspire educational and community groups to sit up and listen, whilst also delivering an important subject matter.

You’ll have the drive and organisational skills to make things happen and be a ‘people person’ – the kind of person who is happy to chat to anyone and everyone at events. Experience of working with volunteers would be beneficial.

You will have your own transport and be able to get to schools and events within the area covered by the Charity’s operations, transporting the kit necessary to carry out educational activities (e.g. sand boxes, beach cleaning kit, books, buckets, large bags)

In return, you will benefit from working with a small and friendly team; some flexibility with working hours; 25 days annual leave pro-rata (11.25 days actual) plus bank holidays; 3 work days a year to use for your own volunteering or ‘give back’ days to your community.

Please apply via email to hello@finalstrawfoundation.org explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CVs alone will not be considered for this role.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applicants.
