Volunteer Roles – How You Can Help

Water Quality Tester

Water Quality Volunteers play a vital role in helping the Final Straw Foundation monitor and protect the health of the Solent’s coastal waters. Through regular water sampling and data collection, volunteers contribute valuable information that helps identify pollution issues, track environmental changes, and support evidence-based conservation efforts.

Support us by:

Gather and record water quality samples and data.
Help build a clearer picture of the challenges facing our marine environment while supporting restoration and protection projects across the region.
Raise awareness, inform local communities, and drive positive action to improve the health of the Solent for wildlife, people, and future generations.

No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a love for the environment.

Time Commitment: It takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour, on weekdays and weekends, you can choose days to help from our volunteer timetable.

Training is provided:

First aid, Health & Safety, Risk assessments, shadowing.

Beach Clean Lead Volunteer

Lead the charge against ocean pollution!

Support our team by:

Setting up equipment
Guiding volunteers
Sorting litter into recyclable and non-recyclable waste

No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a love for the environment.

Time commitment: 3 hours per event (09:30–12:30 or 13:30–16:30) on weekdays or weekends. You can choose events to help from our volunteer timetable.

Training is provided;

First Aid, Health & Safety, Risk assessments, shadowing beach clean leaders.

Event Volunteer

Help us spread the word at local fairs, markets, and environmental events.

Support us by:

Raising awareness about plastic pollution and ocean protection
Engaging with the public
Signing up new volunteers
Helping with selling our products from our shop

Time commitment: 3 hours per event on weekends. You can choose events to help with, from our volunteer timetable.

Training is provided;

First Aid, Health & Safety, Risk assessments, and shadowing team members at events.

Restoration Volunteer

Our restoration volunteers are making a real impact. Whether you’re scrubbing oysters ready for restoration, building oyster habitats, constructing seahorse hotels, or supporting future marine conservation projects, you’ll be helping to create healthier, more resilient coastal environments.

Together, we’re restoring habitats, protecting marine wildlife, and giving nature the helping hand it needs.

Restoration Events Coming Soon

Our volunteer restoration days and workshops will be announced throughout the year, depending on the project. If scrubbing oysters, building oyster homes, or creating seahorse hotels sounds like your kind of day, we’d love to have you on board.

Borrow Bag Volunteer

We have wonderful volunteers who sew bags out of discarded material, such as curtains, bedspreads, tablecloths and more, which are then reused in local shops (from Chichester to Bishops Waltham) to prevent the use of plastic bags.
